Josh Allen is one of two quarterbacks in line for MVP. One 49ers legend claims he got there by accepting his limits.
The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs is now over, with just one-eighth of NFL teams remaining. Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jayden Daniels, and Jalen Hurts are the only four starting quarterbacks still alive.
The Buffalo Bills face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. On the NFC side, the Washington Commanders will face the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Buffalo Bills bullied the Baltimore Ravens to get to this point, according to one former Ravens rival.
Meanwhile, Tedy Bruschi has his verdict on whether Jayden Daniels is the best rookie ever, proving that every team has someone praising them as they head into the final four. Steve Young’s praise might not be quite as glowing as others, depending on how it is interpreted.
Speaking on a January 20 edition of “The Dan Patrick Show,” Steve Young explained that Josh Allen’s ability to doubt his abilities to win the game on his own is a positive trait. Young spoke about it in detail.
He said: “That is the art of quarterbacking. Exactly. If you can’t do that, you won’t be great. And I think that’s what Patrick Mahomes has moved into.”
“That’s what Josh has moved into, a place where they can be Superman and they can be Superman almost every play. And remember early in Patrick’s career and Josh’s, even as of last year, they put on the Superman cape so much that you actually can’t, it doesn’t work,” he added.
He said: “It blows up on you. And so you either figure out how to become a very sophisticated passer in the pocket, get everything you can out of the play, and then be patient and recognize where the spots are, where you can be Superman and where you can’t be because you can’t be every play.”
He summed up: “So, yes, Josh Allen understanding that the Superman cape comes and goes is the maturity of Josh Allen.”
In other words, treating his receivers like he still has Stefon Diggs would have been the team’s undoing. By doubting their abilities to set him up for success by taking wild passes into smaller windows, Allen has elected to be patient until the right opportunity presents itself to throw the football.
Up to this point, the book is pretty clear on Allen vs Mahomes. Allen is 4-1 in the regular season, but winless in the postseason. As such, Mahomes is better in games that matter the most. However, Allen is better when the stakes are lower.
Can Allen go into Arrowhead and upset Patrick Mahomes? If the records are compared, even Mahomes got one against Allen in the regular season in five games. With this being the fourth postseason matchup, Allen is seemingly due. Will he knock out the most accomplished active quarterback in the NFL?
