An upcoming episode of Fire Country season 3 will feature a juicy plot centered around Sheriff Mickey Fox (played by Morena Baccarin) ahead of the new spinoff show about her, Sheriff Country.
The episode “Dirty Money” stars Max Thieriot and Morena, 45, as Bode Donovan and his aunt, Mickey, who will “investigate the attempted murder” of Mickey’s estranged father, Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown), according to a Fox press release published on Monday, March 17.
The episode spotlighting Mickey comes ahead of her new spinoff series, which is set to premiere in the fall of 2025 alongside Fire Country season 4. Sheriff Country will follow Mickey in her role as a straight-shooting law enforcement officer in Edgewater, California. When she’s not patrolling the town’s streets and fighting local crime, Mickey must fight personal battles, including one with her estranged father, who happens to run an illegal marijuana business. Additionally, Mickey will find herself investigating “a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter,” according to the synopsis.
Fans were previously introduced to Mickey during the season 2 episode of Fire Country called “Alert the Sheriff” in April 2024. It was revealed at the time that Mickey happens to be the step-sister of Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), and she also played a role in putting Bode in prison.
Viewers also learned that Mickey raised her daughter, Skye, to “not be like Bode,” but Skye ultimately ended up in rehab.
When Fire Country first began in 2022, Bode was introduced as a young convict with a troubled past. He joined the California Conservation Camp Program, where prisoners volunteer with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), in the hopes of redeeming himself and shortening his prison sentence. Bode was assigned to work in his Northern California hometown and became passionate about firefighting, so when he was freed from prison in season 3, he became a firefighter at Station 42 in Edgewater.
With 10.6 million multiplatform viewers, it’s no surprise that Fire Country landed a spinoff. CBS President and CEO George Cheeks hinted that the show’s universe could be expanded even further in an interview with Deadline in June 2024.
“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises,” he said. “This season’s number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe … It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch. And so I’m like, ‘You guys, congratulations, you got your back nine. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones.”
It’s been rumored that Jared Padalecki, who guest starred in Fire Country as SoCal firefighter Camden Casey, would receive his own spinoff. However, the show has not been confirmed. Max, 36, teased the character’s future in an October 2024 interview with Us Weekly.
“Who knows where this character goes down the road? That’s all kind of just TBD [To Be Decided]. But in the meantime, we just wanted to create a really exciting and fun character arc for him on this show,” the actor said. “We also wanted to introduce him as somebody who’s a part of this world but feels different than our world. Somebody who comes from a different part of the state — a different part of California — and somebody who has a totally different vibe.”
