Justin Steele Shines, Cubs Offense Powers Through Rangers in 7-0 Victory at Wrigley

The Chicago Cubs delivered an impressive 7-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday, with Justin Steele dominating on the mound and the offense firing on all cylinders.

Steele Dominates, Cubs Cruise to Victory

Steele (3-1) was stellar on a cold evening at Wrigley Field, holding the Rangers to just three hits over seven shutout innings. The left-hander struck out eight batters, allowing only three singles and two walks. Colin Rea pitched the final two innings, not allowing a baserunner and striking out one, completing the Cubs’ dominant performance.

Offensive Explosion: Key Contributions Across the Lineup

The Cubs’ offense was led by Michael Busch, Kyle Tucker, and Seiya Suzuki, who each recorded two hits. Busch also drove in two runs and played a key role in the Cubs’ early attack.

The Cubs wasted no time, getting the only run they needed in the second inning when Busch doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Miguel Amaya sac fly. Speed was a key factor as well, with Jon Berti stealing two bases and scoring on a fielder's choice in the third inning, followed by Suzuki’s stolen base and Busch’s triple in the fifth to make it 3-0.

In the sixth, the Cubs capitalized on errors and timely hits to blow open the game. Amaya and Pete Crow-Armstrong got on base, then Ian Happ drove in both with a soft single. Tucker and Suzuki followed up with RBI hits, expanding the lead to 7-0 and sealing the win.

Rangers’ Streak Snapped

The Rangers, who had won five straight games, struggled offensively as Nathan Eovaldi (1-1) took the loss after allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings. The Cubs’ sharp defense and timely hitting made it difficult for the Rangers to get anything going.
