Kandi Burruss’ Epic Post RHOA Career Move Made $2.8M in Just *Days*

The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum is celebrating her newest production on Broadway — find out why.

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have a big reason to celebrate. After producing several Broadway shows, The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum and her husband might have scored their biggest hit on Broadway yet.

Both Kandi and Todd are on the production team behind Broadway's Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, according to Deadline. And Othello just keeps breaking records, as it plays at 100 percent capacity and is now the top-grossing play in Broadway history. The play broke the record for highest weekly gross for a Broadway play, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and brought in $2.8 million in its second week of previews. But theater goers only have a small amount of time to see it, as it is currently on a strict 15-week engagement on Broadway with its run ending on June 8.

Kandi Burruss explains the draw of Othello

In an interview with Waymaker Journal last month, Kandi revealed why audiences are so drawn to the new take on the Shakespearean classic. "This isn't another Shakespearean production," she said. "It's starring Denzel Washington. It's set in 2028. The clothes are modern. The delivery feels real and passionate. You can see yourself in it — even though they're still using Shakespeare's words."

She further admitted that producing Broadway shows is just another way for her to introduce theater to a wider audience.

"In the opportunities that I get, I'm always trying to elevate and make way for more opportunity for people like myself. For Black people, people of color, and women," she explained. "We had people coming to New York to see a show [who'd never been to Broadway before]... We're not just waiting for the people who already go to shows. We're making our shows the destination."

Details on Kandi Burruss' career as a Broadway producer

Kandi and Todd delved into producing on Broadway for the very first time in 2020 with the play, Thoughts of a Colored Man, which starred Broadway's first all-Black, male cast.

Kandi spoke with Entertainment Tonight at the time, where she opened up about why she set her sights on Broadway. "I'm super excited, I have added another little feather to my cap," she said. "You know how much I love Broadway."

She then followed this up by producing a revival of The Wiz in 2023, which was on tour before it landed on Broadway in 2024. "Everybody in the family will love it!" Kandi noted in the caption of an Instagram post at the time.

Kandi Burruss opens up about her career goals

In a 2022 interview with The Daily Dish, Kandi admitted that producing is part of her goal of obtaining an EGOT. She's closer than most, as she already has a Grammy. "My overall dream is that I get the EGOT," she admitted. "Meaning, I got a Grammy. I need an Emmy, I need an Oscar, I need a Tony."

She continued, noting that she is going to put into the work until she gets it. "And so it's like [I need to] analyze the Emmy, Oscar, Tony, and figure out what are all the things I can do to qualify me to be recognized for something like that? So I'm working towards those goals," she stated. "So it's not like I'm stopping there. I'm gonna continue to put in the work until I get my ultimate goal."
