With the success of Othello on Broadway, we all had high hopes that Kandi Burruss would earn a Tony nomination for her role as a producer. Unfortunately, this will not be her year. The play, which stars Denzel Washington, didn’t pick up a single nomination for the 2025 Tony Awards. After the news dropped, Kandi shared her thoughts on Instagram.
Kandi Burruss is “disappointed” by the Othello revival Tony Awards snub
At the bare minimum, you would have expected Othello to get a nomination for Best Revival of a Play. In 2023, Kandi received a nomination in that category for her role as a producer on The Piano Lesson. However, they completely skipped over Othello for the 2025 awards. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum admitted she felt “disappointed” by the outcome.
“Well y’all… Othello didn’t get the Tony nomination,” Kandi began. “Of course I’m disappointed, but I’m still beyond proud to be part of this phenomenal production.”
The play has broken records on Broadway, but it’s also been subject to criticism for the sky-high ticket prices. Either way, Kandi showered the Othello cast with love. She said she feels “blown away and inspired” every time she watches the cast. A Tony nomination won’t change that.
“#DenzelWashington @jakegyllenhaal — you both are delivering a masterclass in acting every single night. Truly unforgettable performances,” Kandi continued.
In typical Kandi fashion, she’s already focusing on what’s next for her career. She isn’t giving up on her dreams of winning a Tony, and it sounds like she already has something up her sleeves.
“To anyone chasing a dream — don’t let a ‘no’ stop your yes. The journey continues,” Kandi added.
