Kandis Burruss Teases Daughter Riley’s Involvement with New Reality Show: 'Still Part of That Family' (Exclusive)

The 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' alum tells PEOPLE that her 22-year-old daughter will be participating in a reality show "that's coming up at the top of the year"

Kandi Burruss might’ve announced her departure from Real Housewives of Atlanta in February, but she could be back on Bravo in some capacity again soon.

“My daughter, Riley, she's on a show that's coming up at the top of the year, so she's going to be doing reality,” Burruss, 48, tells PEOPLE of her 22-year-old daughter. “So, I'm still there. I'm still part of that family.”

In May, Bravo announced an upcoming show titled Making It in Manhattan that will follow a group of friends trying to succeed in New York City. Although the network hasn’t revealed the cast, it will reportedly feature Riley alongside the children of other Housewives such as Brooks Marks, the son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Meredith Marks’ son; Ariana Biermann, the daughter of Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak Biermann; and Gia Giudice, the daughter of Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice.

The cast also supposedly includes Kimora Lee and Russell Simmons’ daughter Ming Lee Simmons; Rachel Roy and Damon Dash’s daughter Ava Dash; influencers Dylan Geick and Emira D’Spain; and socialites Julia Moshy and Andrew Warren.

“Not that I don't like the show, I just feel like when I left, I had done 14 seasons straight. No other Housewife had done that,” she says. “So a lot of times, I was filming all year-round reality, and that can be a little draining.” 

One of her post-RHOA projects included appearing on the Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 episodes of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt, in which she plays a recovering addict named Eboni Phillips who Daniel (Tim Jo) wants to testify in his current trial. “I would love for people to see me bring something else to the table,” Burruss says of her acting chops, adding that doing more scripted roles “is my goal right now.”

Burruss met Reasonable Doubt’s creator Raamla Mohamed on a flight earlier this year and they met up in Atlanta for a chat, but the XSCAPE singer didn’t expect the conversation to lead to work right away.

“I thought that was just she and I having women a business talk, supporting each other type of thing,” Burrus says. “I didn't think it was going to be an opportunity for us to work together so soon. I was thinking maybe off in the future, maybe she could think of me if they had something, but it was immediately after that her team hit my team and they asked me to come in for this role. I was so excited.”

Despite the show’s heavy material, Burruss says Reasonable Doubt’s set had “a totally cool vibe.”

“I was already friends with one of the wardrobe people, so when I came on the show, it was good to see people that I knew,” she continues. “Even just sitting in the hair and makeup trailer, just laughing and talking to them, everybody is super cool. Some of the talent I had already admired before being a part of [the show], it was really great to see them in action.”

Along with acting in more scripted series — Burruss has been back in Chicago filming Showtime’s The Chi — she looks forward to doing more tour dates with XSCAPE and producing Othello on Broadway next year. And if Real Housewives of New York wants to come by for a performance starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, Burruss won’t turn down the Bravo cameras: “If that's what they want to do, they're welcome to come.”
