Karen Huger and Gizelle Bryant called out Mia Thornton for failing to keep her children protected amid her romance with boyfriend Incognito at the cast’s hattitude party on Sunday night’s premiere of The Real Housewives of Potomac.
As Ashley Darby, 36, offered an update on her divorce from Michael Darby, 65, and Wendy Osefo, 40, explained her decision to resign from teaching, Mia, 39, was put on blast for allegedly sleeping with Inc during her marriage to Gordon Thornton, 72, and allowing her children to witness it.
“Are we gonna see G?” Karen asked on the October 6 episode.
“Yes you are,” Mia confirmed, proceeding to reveal how far she and Gordon had come as co-parents.
“I love Gordon a lot and he needs to lean on me. And he’s actually leaning on Inc and I,” she shared. “Inc has most definitely been a pivotal part. Gordon, when he left one weekend, he left his dirty laundry, and I washed it for him, and Inc did fold it, and we took it to his apartment and we put it away.”
Speaking of her thoughts on Mia’s romance, Jacqueline Blake, 39, said that Inc was “really good” for Mia, and she noted that her marriage to Gordon was “more of a business partnership.”
“Did G know it was business?” wondered Gizelle, 54.
“I think that both of them knew that,” Jacqueline replied.
“Mia, come on, it’s gotta be more than business. You gave birth,” Karen told her co-star as she failed to shut down the idea that her marriage was not genuine. “Listen. I feel a certain way about G, and when G shared with the world that your children had seen you in bed with another man, I care for your children. You know that, and the fact that your babies were plastered all over the news really, really bothered me.”
“You don’t think that it bothered me, Karen? I didn’t plaster my babies on the Gram. Their father did,” Mia fired back. “And you’re sitting here trying to pretend like it’s my fault that he did that? No.”
At that point, Gizelle interjected, telling Mia, “You didn’t protect your kids at all costs. You didn’t. Because if you did, you would have not mixed Inc with Gordon. There was a mix and there was a mingle, and I felt like that’s why Gordon… Isn’t that why Gordon had a fit?”
“There is no mix,” Mia stated. “I filed for separation. I cannot control anybody. You guys didn’t know what we were going through. [Jacqueline] is the only one. But listen, does that mean I have to stay in a marriage that’s abusive? Don’t say I’m not protecting my kids, Gizelle!”
Continuing on, Mia became emotional as she defended her parenting and ultimately stormed off.
“That’s f*cked up. My kids are happy. They are thriving, their academics are good. My kids are f*cking protected, and for you to sit there and say that they’re not is f*cked up. Both of you. I gotta go.”
Elsewhere, during a conversation with her attorney, Ashley said that while she was previously “content” with her situation with Michael, she was ready to start mediation and move on from her marriage.
“Before, I was kind of dragging my feet a little,” Ashley explained.
Then, in a confessional, she added, “Finally, I am ready to fully proceed with my divorce. I am very open. I feel like I gotta test drive some cars, and I’m ready to get in as many drivers’ seats as is necessary in order to find the right person for me.”
“[I’m] ready to start dating,” she confirmed as she went on dates with a soccer player named Bill and a political operations director named Jose.
Ashley also told her attorney that custody was “a big thing.”
“But I know what I want, and I want my children as much as possible in their home where they belong,” she stated.
As for Wendy, she spoke of walking away from her professor role in Johns Hopkins University’s Doctor of Education program.
“I wanted to resign for a very long time,” she said in a confessional. “I’m turning 40, but I still have other things to do.”
In addition to spending more time with her kids, Wendy admitted that she “no longer felt fulfilled” by her role. That said, it was still emotional when she officially walked away.
“Dear Dean and Chair, after much thought and consideration, I have decided to resign from my position at the university, effective at the end of this month,” she read from her email. “This was not an easy decision but one that I had to do for myself, and more importantly, my family.”
Sharing the news with husband Eddie Osefo, Wendy said, “I feel empowered because I finally did it on my own terms.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac season nine airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
