Katie Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. Things have moved quickly since then, including her relationship status with Jeff Arcuri. The former Bachelorette star got engaged to the comedian in the summer of 2024. They decided to elope in March 2025, shortly after she got the shocking diagnosis.
Katie Thurston was initially scheduled to start chemotherapy last month. But a last-minute test result revealed that her cancer is less aggressive and may not require chemo at all. Instead, she’s on a regimen of oral medications and a monthly hormone-blocking injection. But she still needs surgery to remove the lump from her breast. The former reality star also plans to have a full mastectomy and breast reconstruction. She revealed that she isn’t having breast cancer surgery yet. Keep reading to find out why she’s putting it off.

Katie Thurston Reveals She’s Putting Off Breast Cancer Surgery
Katie Thurston created a channel on Instagram to keep fans up to date on her cancer journey. Fans can subscribe to the Boobie Broadcast on the app on their cell phones. She’s used the channel to share how her initial diagnosis was incorrect.
Her first biopsies were done in California. But she moved to New York around the time she was diagnosed with breast cancer and changed medical teams. The medical team in NY redid the tests and discovered that the initial result was wrong and the cancer had spread to Katie Thurston’s liver.
In a new post on the Boobie Broadcast, she revealed that she consulted with a liver oncologist. The oncologist made it clear that the liver cancer needed to be treated first. She revealed that she consulted with her team at Columbia about having histotripsy, which is a non-invasive way of destroying cancer cells using ultrasound waves.
However, the doctors at Columbia didn’t think she was a good candidate for it because the liver nodes are near her ribs. She’s getting a second opinion on that from NYU after they review her scans.
The Bachelor alum added that regardless of whether she has surgery or the non-invasive procedure, she’s waiting to make the next move until after July. Why July? She’s scheduled for a body scan to see if the oral medications and injections are working.

So, according to Katie Thurston, she has to deal with the liver cancer before the breast cancer.
She’s Trying Alternative Treatment For Menopause Symptoms
Katie Thurston has been clear that the medication she’s on comes with some pretty nasty side effects. One of which is medically induced menopause. That means she’s experiencing all the symptoms of menopause at just 34 years old, including the dreaded hot flashes.
She revealed that she’s trying a natural treatment for hot flashes. She said that she previously tried acupuncture as part of the chemo prep she did before finding out she didn’t need chemotherapy. The former reality star hopes that acupuncture might relieve the hot flashes.
