The New Orleans Saints face a bit of a rebuild after another season without making the NFL playoffs and will be hoping that new head coach Kellen Moore can bring them a spark.
The gamble to sign Derek Carr to a big contract hasn’t paid off and they have been forced to watch their NFC South rivals in Tampa win the division for the last four seasons.
Kellen Moore was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who just blew the Kansas City Chiefs away in the Super Bowl.
He isn’t the man tasked with bringing the Saints out of NFL cap space hell, but it is his job to make them competitive again and lead them back into contention.
Marcus Spears thinks Saints fans should be excited about Moore as their new head coach. After all, he has made the NFL playoffs in each of the last four seasons.
He must get to work almost immediately by planning for the draft, as well as picking which of his current stars he wants to retain in free agency.

Kellen Moore praises ‘special’ New Orleans Saints players after arrival
The Saints finished bottom of the NFC South in 2024 with a 5-12 record, ending the season on a four-game losing streak.
Despite starting the season 2-0, including an impressive victory at the Dallas Cowboys, they fell off dramatically across the rest of the year.
Alvin Kamara won’t like what a former teammate recommended after he suggested that the Saints draft a young running back to sit behind him.
Speaking about the talent he has at his disposal now, Coach Moore was enthusiastic about the players in the building in New Orleans.
“We’ve got a bunch of special players in this building, they all have superpowers and we’re excited to sort that out and put ourselves in the best position to be successful,” he told the Saints’ YouTube channel.
Why Kellen Moore has the toughest job of any NFC South coach in 2025
The Saints’ projected salary cap, according to Spotrac, is negative $60 million. Effectively, they’re fighting against the near-impossible.
Expecting them to compete from that sort of position is a big ask and turns this project into a clear rebuild for the time being.
Whether or not Carr will remain in town as quarterback remains to be seen, but they won’t want to hand the towel in on 2025 and give up already.
Focusing on nailing their NFL draft choices is a key focus point, and could see them at least challenge not to be last in their division.
They also need to ensure that their team gets a bit younger again rather than following the ageing trend of the last few years.
