The New Orleans Saints will have to wait quite awhile to see one of their fan favorite players on the field this season. Meanwhile, another important piece at his position is also dealing with a recovery process that will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future.
Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau injury update
According to head coach Kellen Moore, both tight end Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill are not close to a return to the field. Rather, "they're not ready to get on the field any time soon", via Moore. The depth at TE for Moore's offense is a notable concern due to these injuries.
Juwan Johnson is the clear starter for the Saints at the position. Jack Stoll is set for a legitimate offensive impact as of now, though. Stoll signed with the Saints this offseason after spending last year with Moore on the Philadelphia Eagles. The experienced TE is more of a blocking threat than a consistent receiving option.
Behind Stoll, there is complete unknown for New Orleans. Whoever earns the third TE roster spot Moliki Matavao, Treyton Welch, and Michael Jacobson will be a lot closer to the field than many fans would probably prefer. None of them have notable NFL experience or production.
Keep in mind - Moore's offense is one that welcomes two TE sets, particularly to help the play action passing game find success. With Moreau and Hill set to miss quite a chunk of regular season time potentially, making a move for more TE depth may be a necessity for the Saints.
