Fire Country's Kevin and Leslie Alejandro Talk Directorial Debut and Manny's Deadly Cliffhanger (Exclusive)

Quick, someone call 9-1-1 for Manny! Kevin Alejandro’s character is in serious trouble by the end of the latest Fire Country episode—and the drama doesn’t stop there. Directed by Kevin’s real-life wife, Leslie Alejandro, the episode delivers powerful emotional punches for nearly every character in Edgewater.

From Vince confronting his father’s worsening dementia, to Bode opening up about dark moments in his past, this episode leaves no heart untouched.

💔 Manny’s Decline: A Shocking Turn

Kevin Alejandro teased what’s ahead for Manny, whose health seems to be spiraling after Birch’s tragic death. “Where you see Manny now is just the beginning,” he warned. “It affects him health-wise, mentally—and it’s going to be a deep journey to figure out what the hell’s going on.”

With Manny suddenly down for the count, the whole Three Rock family may need to rally. “You get an idea of how strong the Army is when one of their own goes down,” Kevin said. Expect this storyline to unravel big secrets in Edgewater.

🎬 Leslie Alejandro’s Directing Debut: A Family Affair

Leslie Alejandro didn’t just step behind the camera—she owned it. From music videos to documentaries, Leslie’s journey to episodic television was years in the making. Championing her from day one was KristieAnne Reed at Bruckheimer, and after shadowing Kevin and other directors on set, Leslie finally got her shot.

“I was just excited for the opportunity—and nervous,” she admitted. But when it came time to roll, she delivered a visually stunning and emotionally loaded hour.

Her favorite moment? The breathtaking opening shot of Manny after Birch’s death. “It was like choreographing a dance,” Kevin said. “She and her DP made something we’ve never seen on this show before.” They nailed it in just three takes.

Leslie also directed two of the episode’s most gutting scenes: Vince realizing Walter’s dementia has progressed, and Bode opening up to Audrey on their first date about how close he came to using pills during his darkest moments.

For the scene with Walter, Leslie focused on vulnerability. “Seeing Vince’s reaction—that was the most heartbreaking,” she said. “Billy [Burke] did it so beautifully. You can feel the struggle they all know is coming.”

And for Bode and Audrey? “It was important to show how they opened up to each other without judgment. It’s the beginning of something real.” Their raw honesty sets this new relationship apart from Bode’s past with Gabriela.

🧠 Manny’s Fatherly Instincts

And speaking of Gabriela, Kevin revealed how Manny would feel about her new love interest, Finn. “He’d probably be like—why isn’t he a firefighter? What do his parents do?” he joked, before turning serious. “I think Manny would prefer she focus on herself right now. But he knows she has to make her own decisions, and he’ll be there if she needs him.”

This episode was more than just a turning point in the story—it was a triumph for Leslie Alejandro and a showcase for Kevin Alejandro’s emotional depth. As Manny’s fate hangs in the balance, fans should buckle up for what promises to be a season full of heart, heartbreak, and healing.
