According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers are in ongoing trade discussions involving one of the Flyers’ forwards. Seravalli shared this insight on The DFO Rundown, noting that while no specific names have been confirmed as targets, the talks signal the Kings’ interest in bolstering their roster.
“I think one team that’s been more active on the trade front than we’d realize has been the LA Kings,” Seravalli said. He called it a bit surprising that, after winning six in a row, the Kings are looking to make a deal. He wondered if it could be because they want to strike while the iron is hot. Seravalli couldn’t put his finger on exactly what the Kings were looking for, but did say the Flyers are among the clubs they’ve talke to.
Who on the Flyers Is of Interest to the Kings?
He excluded Travis Konecny and Tyson Forrester from the discussions, leaving a group of players like Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee, Scott Laughton, and Bobby Brink as potential options.
According to Karo Blikian of The Hockey News, the Kings’ need for additional scoring, particularly a right-shot forward, has been evident since the offseason. However, of the Flyers named, only Brink fits that profile, and his current production—a projected 36 points—falls short of providing a meaningful upgrade to the Kings’ top nine.
While players like Farabee or Laughton are more experienced, concerns about salary cap implications and level of production for the money would bring cause of pause. Still, with Drew Doughty’s return imminent, the Kings are likely assessing their options carefully.
Whether these discussions lead to anything remains to be seen. Seravalli makes it sound like the Kings are looking. Will they find anything that suits their needs?
