Kristen Doute Recalls Why Sandoval Influenced Her Decision to Not Appear on The Bachelor

Before she was a cast member on either Vanderpump Rules or The Valley, Kristen Doute was almost vying for a rose on a dating show.

On the June 13 episode of her and Luke Broderick's podcast, Balancing Act, the James Mae t-shirt designer claimed that she was once asked to be a competitor on The Bachelor. She recounted the story to Luke and to guest Joe Amabile. She said that she was given the offer when she was working behind the bar at Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant, SUR.

"Someone from The Bachelor or Bachelor Nation, whatever, came in and gave me a card and asked me to be a contestant on it," Kristen said.

However, she declined because she had just begun her five-year relationship with former live-in boyfriend, Tom Sandoval.  "But, I had just started dating Tom Sandoval so I was like, 'No. This [relationship] could be forever,'" Kristen said about her reaction to the tempting offer. "I could have been on Bachelor Nation instead of Bravo."

Would Vanderpump Rules alum Kristen Doute have appeared on The Bachelor?

Guest Joe Amabile then asked Kristen if she would have done the show had she been single. "Yeah, I think so," she responded, but fans will now never know what it would have been like to see the former SUR waitress on a dating competition.

Kristen Doute's current relationship with Luke Broderick

As Vanderpump Rules fans will remember, Kristen and Sandoval ended their relationship in 2013, and he went on to date Ariana Madix. After their split, Kristen was in a few other relationships and then she met Luke at a wedding in June 2022.

Luke and Kristen were both in the bridal party for the wedding, and they walked down the aisle together. There was an instant spark for the two, as Kristen later revealed that they hooked up at the wedding.

She spoke about their bond on an episode of their past podcast, Sex, Love, and What Else Matters

“Just the thought of being someone’s girlfriend again threw me through a loop because I want to be a wife and I want to be a mother,” she said, noting that she also initially had hesitations about Luke because he is eight years younger. “Most of all, I just want to be a mother and a partner. And I was so tired of being a girlfriend for a couple of years and then having sh-t fall apart.”

Despite some early concerns, Kristen and Luke have managed to make things work in their romance. In addition to appearing on The Valley together, Luke and Kristen live with each other, and they've talked about having kids and getting married.
