Kyle Richards nearly left Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and not just once. Almost every Housewife in the business has threatened to quit, some more seriously than others. And given Kyle’s 14 seasons on television, of course the show would test her patience.
That said, Kyle admitted that those 14 seasons helped her more than hurt her. Which makes sense; why else would she still be around? The Kyle we know now is more comfortable in matters the old Kyle never would’ve considered, like questioning her sexuality.
So, amid the constant divorce updates, Kyle presses on. But in Season 4, Kyle very nearly threatened to walk. At Carlton Gebbia’s house, Kyle’s costars started bringing up certain tabloids, and she decided she was fed up.
Mauricio’s cheating rumors almost made Kyle Richards quit
Kyle recently appeared on Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast where she explained the entire story. During Season 4’s filming, a tabloid reported on cheating rumors around Mauricio Umansky. Kyle said, “Yolanda [Hadid] and Lisa [Vanderpump] were both like, ‘You mean there’s no smoke without fire?’ I was like, ‘Okay. I see where this is going.’”
She continued, “I had a lump in my throat, and I had my phone… I texted under the table, and I said, ‘Bring my car around. I quit. I’m done with this f*cking show.’” At that point, the show wasn’t serving Kyle’s mental health at all. “My anxiety was so bad. I just thought, ‘I can’t live like that.’”
Kyle also mentioned Season 5 Episode 16’s explosive dinner, and how she was afraid to stand up to her family. “There’s often times that my hands were tied, and I literally felt like I had my hands tied behind my back and I was just getting pummeled from the audience.”
She added, “And people who knew me well, family and whatever, knew that I was the kind of person that wouldn’t speak up, so they took advantage of that, and it got worse and worse and worse.”
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14 airs Tuesday, November 19, at 8/7c on Bravo.
