Latest NFL head coaching news creates tension between the Saints and an AFC team immediately

Since Dennis Allen's firing, there have been plenty of names mentioned to be the next New Orleans Saints head coach. Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is a strong candidate with legitimate interest from the Saints to be their next head coach.

Aaron Glenn's choice looms for Saints

According to Jonathan Jones on CBS, the Lions DC may end up choosing between the head coach job with the New York Jets or the Saints . Glenn has taken five interviews so far around the NFL.

Jones also said that his sources relayed that Glenn "crushed" his interviews. That may make it a bit more difficult for New Orleans to land their former assistant as their new head coach.

New Orleans clearly has legitimate interest in Glenn as one of the hottest names on the coaching market. New York has a unique avenue with Glenn as well, though.

He played for the Jets for eight years and made the Pro Bowl twice with them. Glenn finished his playing career with the Saints.

Of course, Glenn’s first coordinator gig was preceded by a five-year run in the Saints’ organization. He worked as New Orleans’ defensive backs coach during that span, and a return to the city to replace Dennis Allen remains a possibility to watch for. -- ProFootballRumors

Staying with the connectivity theme, the Saints hiring Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn makes sense. He's one of the most complete candidates, so I believe his chances to earn a head coaching job are strong. The Saints have valued consistency over the past two decades of mostly successful football. Glenn has been a part of that as a Sean Payton disciple, and New Orleans means a lot to Detroit coach Dan Campbell, who is also from the Payton tree. -- Jeremy Fowler

Dan Campbell, the Lions head coach, recently advertised Glenn as a fantastic candidate for HC openings, too. The support is clear. He's got a lot of fans around the league, and he deserves a chance, undoubtedly.
