The NFL Draft is fast approaching for the Minnesota Vikings with just 22 days left to figure out a plan for their process for the first round.
Conventional wisdom across all of NFL Draft media has one of two things projected for the Vikings: take a safety or trade down. Over 50% of all selections have the Vikings selecting a safety with the 24th pick or a slight trade down. There are teams who could trade up for a player, potentially at quarterback with Jaxson Dart and possibly Shedeur Sanders available.
Pro Football Focus NFL Mock Draft introduces fascinating trade down for Vikings
We've seen some interesting trade possibilities for the Vikings across a lot f mock drafts, but one that was proposed by Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman with the Seattle Seahawks by moving all the way down to pick 50.
Thanks to a trade calculator made by Joseph Hefner, we can take a look at how the trade looks with different trade charts.

This is an interesting one for the Vikings, as they don't have much draft capital in 2025. They would gain another pick in the third round this year to bring their total up to five, plus add a third-rounder in 2026. That would bring their third-round picks up to three next year with the projected third-round compensatory pick they are set to get from losing Sam Darnold.
The other interesting element is how similar the trade is to the one general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made in his first draft down with the Detroit Lions, moving from 12th to 32nd overall.

The trades are similar in one way: they lost value in the conventional trade charts but gained it in the analytics ones, which is a very peculiar connection.
There is a good argument to be made about trading down in this year's NFL Draft and collecting future draft capital, as this year's class isn't that strong. Next year's class is likely going to be better, and the Vikings will need to start having some larger quantity draft classes to have some inexpensive depth with their larger contracts.
It will be interesting to see if the Vikings are willing to make a move like this to try and maximize their assets
