The New Orleans Saints brought back a familiar face recently with the signing of Shane Lemieux. Now, we have a better idea of why they felt the need to do that with their current roster construction.
Nick Saldiveri suffers another injury
Saints offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri will be placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury, according to head coach Kellen Moore. The offensive lineman suffered the injury during practice last week. That pushed New Orleans to sign veteran offensive lineman Shane Lemieux.
Lemieux will likely compete for a depth spot along the OL for Moore’s team. They brought in Will Clapp as a fellow depth interior player who can play guard or center. That versatility can be important, especially when you consider how many OL injuries that Saints have dealt with in recent seasons. -- A to Z Sports
Saldiveri has dealt with calf, shoulder, and knee injuries previously to this latest knee issue while with the Saints. It's been a constant cycle of injuries that has prevented his NFL career from ever getting off the ground.
Saldiveri's future in New Orleans is cloudy now
This is yet another crushing blow for Saldiveri. He has not stayed healthy whatsoever so far in his pro career. He's played in fifteen total games in his first two seasons with the team, with only six starts due to other OL injuries for New Orleans.
Now, he is set to miss this entire season. That will leave just one season left on Saldiveri's rookie deal, and he has proven nothing to earn a second deal with the organization. Entering 2026, the Saints may have even more competition for the interior of their offensive line, so Saldiveri could simply be a roster cut ahead of next season for the Saints. That is the harsh reality of the NFL.
