Law Roach reveals whether there’s tension between Zendaya and Anna Sawai after their matching Met Gala moment

Law Roach is clearing the air after Zendaya and Anna Sawai matched at the Met.

On May 5, the actresses stepped out at the Met Gala 2025 red carpet, and fans were quick to notice their similar takes on the night’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme. Both award-winning actresses chose fitted white pant suits and large white floppy hats.

While their accidental twinning moment caused quite the stir online, Zendaya’s stylist put an end to any presumed tension between the two.

“But yeah, it wasn’t any disappointment. It was two people paying homage to two different people: Yoko [Ono] being Anna’s inspiration and Diana [Ross] and Bianca [Jagger] being ours. It just happened,” he said of the twinning moment. Getty Images

“I think people thought there was some type of disappointment on our end,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the Disney Upfront on May 13. “Her stylist Karla Welch and I are very friendly, we’ve known each other for years.”

Not only was there no beef, but “Karla and I talked, [and] Zendaya sent Anna flowers because it was her first Met.”

In fact, Welch previously addressed the coincidence on her Instagram, posting on her Instagram Story, “We can add homage to @zendaya as well” and later wrirting, “great minds @luxurylaw,” tagging Roach.

“But yeah, it wasn’t any disappointment. It was two people paying homage to two different people: Yoko [Ono] being Anna’s inspiration and Diana [Ross] and Bianca [Jagger] being ours. It just happened,” he added.

“And they both looked great, and they’re both beautiful women. I mean, I hate the way that people try to pin women or stylists [against each other],” Law concluded. “It was just all great. They both looked great.”

While both seemingly took inspiration from women who wore white suits before them, their actual outfits did have some differences.

The “Euphoria” star wore a custom Louis Vuitton three-piece suit designed by Pharrell Williams that featured a flawlessly fitted silk blazer, vest, tie and flared pants.

Meanwhile, the “Shōgun” star took inspiration from Yoko Ono in a white suit and tie sans vest, designed by Dior. She went with a straight-leg pant style and wore an ever-so-slightly smaller hat and carried gloves, too.

“It wasn’t any disappointment,” Roach clarified. “It was two people paying homage to two different people. It just happened, and they both looked great, and they’re both beautiful women.”

He continued, “I mean, I hate the way that people try to pin women or stylists [against each other]. It was just all great.”

While Zendaya has yet to publicly comment on the situation, Sawai took the drama head on with her latest Instagram post.

“Late but FIRST MET GALA,” she wrote in her caption. “I know a lot of people have a lot to say, and trust me, I admire her too But most importantly, I’m so happy with my look, so please be happy for me too xx”

We hope for many more fashionable red carpet appearances from the duo of style stars.
