Leftover UFAs; Available D-Man; Gauging Jarry’s Trade Worth

What is Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry worth in a trade? We explored that very issue, and the reaction was predictably a bit polarized. Elsewhere in the Daily, ESPN has the crop of leftover free agents, Nick Kypreos stirred the NHL trade waters for a Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman, our Detroit colleagues are also looking at available defensemen to bolster the marshmallow Detroit Red Wings blue line, and chatter is already beginning on which teams will extend offers to the five acquitted 2018 Team Canada players.

While it seems that the lake house season has begun for many of the hockey media, we roll onward. In fact, neither of the Canadian giants has published fresh hockey content in a couple of days, but hey–we’re still going. So, check back every day. Quite honestly, it feels weird if I’m not writing. And on days when I’d like to get away, it has rained, will rain, and continue to rain.

A crack in the Penguins’ armor or some trade talk would be nice, but I feel like examining Jarry’s value was probably the last of it until something new emerges. We’ve done similar pieces on Erik Karlsson, Bryan Rust, and Rickard Rakell. Like you, I wish I knew why teams seem hesitant. For player and team, a resolution would seem best.

Lastly, a little love for one of my new favorite spots. I had a really good time at the Original Pittsburgh Winery last night. The Original is further up Penn Ave, at 28th St. (don’t be fooled by others who awkwardly chose similar names). The wine is good because they make it on site from California grapes, and the downstairs stage had a pretty, pretty good band. It’s definitely a must-hang on Saturday night/Sunday afternoon … The wine is certainly not PA sugar water.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: In every trade, there is debate about what a player is worth. And there is a newer trend amongst Penguins fans to wish to discard any player for nothing. So, we looked at the market, the past trades for goaltenders, and came up with a value range if general manager Kyle Dubas were to trade Tristan Jarry.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: The boys on our baseball side are having their best month ever. There are two stories you should check out today. First, David Bednar reached an impressive milestone as he again held the fort for a scoreless appearance. He’s working on quite a string of scoreless outings, but that wasn’t the Pirates closer’s milestone.

And despite being one of the worst teams in baseball, the Pirates are second in MLB with 12 shutouts. Just goes to show how good their pitching is and how bad the sticks are, eh? Here are the details of the Pirates’ win.
