LeSean McCoy reveals true engine behind Philadelphia Eagles offense

The Philadelphia Eagles have an offensive coordinator but it turns out, the real engine behind the playcalling is quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Former NFL star LeSean McCoy recently revealed how the Eagles' offense is run. According to McCoy, wide receiver A.J. Brown made it clear that Hurts calls the shots, regardless of who holds the title of offensive coordinator.

“AJ told me, or really, a few players have said it, the offense is the offense,” McCoy said on FS1's The Facility . “They don’t care who the coordinator is. When you come to Philly, you’re running Jalen Hurts’ offense. You’ve got to fit into what he does, not the other way around.”

It just goes to show how much control and trust the Eagles have put in Hurts, he's basically running the show, which isn’t something you usually see from a young quarterback.

This isn't much of a secret since the signs were there last year after Nick Sirianni was forced to take a backseat and former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore gave Hurts a lot of control, and it worked.

Even though Hurts missed the last two regular-season games with a concussion, he came back strong and led the Eagles on a dominant playoff run, ending with a Super Bowl LIX win over the Chiefs. Hurts threw for over 2,900 yards and 18 touchdowns during the 2024 season and added 14 more touchdowsn on the ground. But it was in the playoffs where Hurts really turned things up after he scored three touchdowns in the Super Bowl and was crowned MVP.

It makes a lot of sense for Hurts to have a big say in calling plays for the Eagles. He knows the offense better than anyone and has the smarts to read defenses and make the right calls on the fly. With his ability to throw and run, the playbook needs to stay flexible so giving him more control helps take full advantage of that.
