During the 2023 NHL Offseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning traded former fan favorite Pat Maroon to the Minnesota Wild. From there, he would be dealt by the Wild to the Boston Bruins at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline.
Following his move to Boston, Maroon proved to be a solid fourth-liner for the Bruins. While he did not produce much offensively, his physicality and team-first attitude made him impactful.
However, if the Bruins decide to let Maroon walk, he will hit the free-agent market this July. If he does, the Lightning would be wise to bring him back to Tampa Bay.
The Lightning certainly missed Maroon this season. They could have used his toughness, especially during the playoffs. As a result, if Maroon could be had at a cheap price, the Lightning should make a big push for him.
Maroon would significantly boost the Lightning’s bottom six if they signed him. This is because he not only plays a heavy game and is a well-known leader but can also contribute a bit offensively when playing at his best.
It will be interesting to see if the Lightning end up bringing back Maroon this summer. The fit is certainly there.
