It may have taken the Detroit Lions 95 years to post a 15-win season, but now that they're there Lions president Rod Wood is letting one of the team's most hated rivals know about it.
After the Motor City hosted the NFL Draft to tremendous success in 2024, its the Green Bay Packers turn. And when asked if the small Wisconsin town could match, or even surpass last April's turnout in the D, Wood took advantage of the opportunity to take a shot at his NFC North neighbor.
"Trying to get the NFL to consider bringing it back [to Detroit] because I don't think they'll ever top it," Wood said at the annual NFL Draft luncheon, via the Detroit Free Press. "There's no way Green Bay will come close. They'll finish second or as I said to Brad [Galli], they'll finish third like they did last year."
There's certainly nothing wrong with a little trash talk between division opponents in the lead-up to the 2025 campaign. But the league is confident that Green Bay will be a great host city for this year's event.
"Lambeau and Green Bay and the Packers and the organizing committee, they all had all of those components," NFL senior VP and global head of major events Jon Barker told The Athletic.
"For us, the draft is really an experience for fans to come together and if there's an opportunity to match that with also bringing them to a place like Green Bay, the conversation was the opposite of concern. I do think that Green Bay is ready for this."
Titletown is home to some of the best fans in the National Football League and they'll certainly be looking to represent well with all eyes on them in the sports world this week.
The league reportedly estimates around 250,000 people will take in the three days of festivities in the Frozen Tundra. Last year, Detroit drew over 775,000.
