Lisa Barlow’s Son Jack ‘Had Something Else Happen’ on His Mission Following Health Scare

Viewers of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City know that Lisa Barlow’s son Jack is in Colombia serving his two-year Mormon mission. His stay there has been anything but uneventful, however.

First, he came down with some mysterious illness, but he recovered quickly and was soon enjoying South American cuisine again.

But then there was another complication, requiring Jack to briefly return home to the States. Lisa gave an update on her son following the RHOSLC reunion on January 22.

Jack had to return to Utah for three weeks

“He had something else happen … We’re like, ‘You need to come home,'” Lisa said on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show. “He’s like, ‘I don’t want to leave my mission and not be able to come back.’ He wrote his mission president and got us all on a Zoom. [He] said, ‘I won’t go home unless you put it in writing that I can come back. And you have to have whoever you need with the church on the Zoom so that everyone hears it, OK?'”

Finally, Jack was able to return home. “Jack stayed home for three weeks, and then was able to go back to Colombia,” Lisa shared.

When he came home, Jack brought Colombian presents for everyone. He’s apparently loving his time in South America. Lisa said he’s “obsessed” with everything about the country; the people, the culture, the church, and of course, the food.

“He’s teaching people that are, like, ex-members of the cartel,” the Vida Tequila founder explained. “And he’s like, ‘Mom, it is like so crazy cool how people want redemption.'”

Back in Colombia, the mission goes on for Jack

After recovering, Jack returned to a leadership position in Colombia, Assistant to the President (of the Mission, not the country).

“He loves it,” Lisa said. “Now that his health has been cleared, he flies all over [Colombia] on these little tiny planes … [They] do zone conferences … education. And he still does service.”

Lisa believes Jack’s having the time of his life, but “he doesn’t have much longer left.”

She admits his time away has gone by fast. “Oh my gosh. It flies by because you get to talk once a week.”

In addition to their phone calls, Lisa sent Jack care packages containing little luxuries like a credit card for his Michelin-starred dining experiences. Unlike his mom, Jack’s got upscale culinary taste.

“He’s like, ‘The food is amazing,'” she added.
