Joseph Woll is back to his usual form.
Making consecutive starts in net for the second time this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender was named the NHL's third star of the week for the period ending Nov. 24
Woll stopped 54 of the 56 and went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage, and one shutout. His efforts helped the Maple Leafs (13-6-2, 28 points) extend their winning streak to four games and propelled them to first place in the Atlantic Division. Woll earned his just his second career shutout on Nov. 20,making 31 saves – including 16 in the second period – in a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. He followed that up with 23 saves in a 3-2 win against the Utah Hockey Club on Sunday.
It's been quite the turnaround month for the goaltender who started the season with groin tightness, forcing him to miss the first couple of weeks.
The 26-year-old netminder has compiled a 5-2-0 record through seven appearances this season, leading all NHL goaltenders (minimum 7 games) with a 2.00 goals-against average and ranking eighth in save percentage at .921.
Anthony Solarz has also performed well this season for Toronto, posting a 7-3-2 record this season. His .927 save percentage leads the NHL among goalies who have played in at least eight games.
Stolarz' performance combined with Woll's return to form has seen Toronto form a goaltender tandem that hasn't looked this strong in quite some time. Toronto's team save percentage of .919 is tied for third in the NHL entering Monday's games.
