Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan now holds the unofficial longest-point streak in the CHL since 2000.
The forward had a goal and an assist for the OHL's London Knights in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Guelph Storm. With the two points, Cowan has extended his point streak to 51 consecutive games, dating back to Nov. 24, 2023.
He unofficially passes Alexander Radulov's record of 50 straight games with a point with the Quebec Remparts in the 2005-06 season. According to The Hockey News' Ken Campbell, Cowan's point streak won't be counted by the OHL and CHL because it spans two seasons.
However, it's still possible to break the record. Cowan and the Knights have 49 games left on the season, meaning the 19-year-old would need to continue his point streak for the remainder of the season to reach the record books.
Cowan has 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points in 15 games with London this season. He was returned to the OHL by the Maple Leafs on Oct. 7 at the end of Toronto's training camp.
The forward is unofficially four games away from former Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour's OHL-record 55-game point streak, which he achieved with the Cornwall Royals during the 1982-83 season.
If Cowan continued his point streak for the remainder of this season, he'd assumably hit Gilmour's record very late in the year. Cowan will likely miss a few games in late December and early January due to the World Juniors with Team Canada.
He played on the team last year, scoring one goal and one assist in five games, and is likely hoping to get into the medal round after being eliminated in the quarterfinals last year.
The Maple Leafs selected Cowan in the first round (28th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft after 20 goals and 33 assists in 68 games with the Knights. He followed that year up with 96 points (34 goals, 62 assists) in 54 games last season.
Cowan was an OHL Champion last season with London. They made it to the Memorial Cup Final but lost 4-3 to the host team the Saginaw Spirit, who London eliminated in the OHL Conference Finals.
The Mount Brydges, Ontario-born forward has 36 goals and 51 assists for 87 points during his 51-game point streak.
