Maple Leafs’ Quarter-Century Teams to be announced on January 4th

As part of the NHL’s Quarter-Century Team celebration for 2025, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have their teams announced on January 4th.

According to the press release released by the league, the NHL will reveal each club’s First and Second Quarter-Century Teams between December 30th and January 31st. Both teams for each club will consist of three forwards, two defencemen, and a goaltender. The Leafs will be the sixth franchise overall to have their Quarter-Century teams revealed which will occur before their game later that night against Boston Bruins.

Only players who have appeared in a game for the team since January 1st, 2000 are eligible to be voted, with the teams being picked by a select panel of media, retired players and executives specific to each individual franchise.

Around the time of the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, the NHL will hold a fan vote to determine the NHL Quarter-Century Team. This will allow fans a chance to decide who are the top 25 players from the last 25 years, with voting set to run between February 12th and February 26th. Fans will have the chance to cast their votes on NHL.com and X (formerly known as Twitter).

No date has been determined on when the league will announce the NHL Quarter-Century Team. NHL Productions will also be putting together four debate-style studio shows around the players and highlights of the last 25 years, with the shows scheduled to be released sometime in March.

At the time of filing, it is obviously unclear who exactly will make the Leafs’ Quarter-Century Teams. Below is a short list of candidates who will likely be in consideration for the 12 spots available:

Forward: Auston Matthews, Mats Sundin, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, John Tavares, Phil Kessel, Nazem Kadri, Gary Roberts

Defence: Morgan Rielly, Dion Phaneuf, Tomas Kaberle, Bryan McCabe, Jake Muzzin, Jake Gardiner

Goalies: Curtis Joseph, Frederik Andersen, Ed Belfour, James Reimer
