Maple Leafs Receive Worrying News at Practice after Stellar Game One Victory
Following their Game 1 win over the divisional foe Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs have released worrying news from their practice session on Monday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have gained the upper hand early on in the 1st Battle of Ontario since 2004, taking Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the divisional foe Ottawa Senators.
Toronto picked up a 6-2 win over Ottawa thanks to a strong power play as well as taking advantage of a shaky outing from Senators goalie Linus Ullmark.
But as the Maple Leafs gathered for practice on Monday following the Game 1 win, there was a worrying update. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz was not on the ice with his teammates, sparking worry about a potential injury.
Stolarz, who made 31 saves, admitted that he'd like the 1st goal by Ottawa's Drake Batherson back; the puck took an unfortunate bounce in the crease as he attempted to coral the puck into his equipment.
It kind of hops over your stick, right? That's part of being a goalie, it's short-term memory, and you gotta worry about that next shot.
However, he was quick to credit the rest of his teammates for making his job easier.
Guys did a really good job for me, keeping them to the outside, and when my number was called to make a big save, I just tried my best to do that. Like I said, though, our commitment to playing a 200-foot game, blocking shots, having good sticks in lanes, I think, was key to our success tonight.
If Stolarz is hurt and unable to go in Game 2, the Leafs will have to turn to Joseph Woll.
