ronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan continued his impressive point streak with the OHL's London Knights.
The 19-year-old forward recorded two assists in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night, extending his streak to 53 games. Although the OHL and CHL consider the streak unofficial due to it going back to last season, Cowan now holds the longest point streak in the CHL since 2000.
Cowan's streak, spanning 53 consecutive games, dates back to November 24 of last season with the Knights. During this stretch, he has amassed 88 points, including 37 goals and 53 assists.
He is now just three games shy of tying former Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour's OHL record of 55 consecutive games with a point. Gilmour set the record during the 1982-83 season with the Cornwall Royals.
Despite the unofficial designation, Cowan has a chance to surpass Gilmour’s mark officially, as London has 47 games remaining on their schedule this season. If he maintains his current form, Cowan could match or exceed the record late in the season.
The Mount Brydges, Ontario native is expected to miss some games in late December and early January while representing Team Canada at the 2025 World Juniors in Ottawa, Ontario.
Drafted 28th overall by the Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft, Cowan signed a three-year entry-level contract with the team on August 11, 2023. Although he aimed to make the Maple Leafs' roster out of training camp, he didn’t make a strong enough impact during preseason games and was sent back to the OHL on October 7.
This season, Cowan has tallied 14 goals and 8 assists for 22 points in 16 games with the Knights. Since debuting with the team during the 2021-22 season, he has recorded 173 points (69 goals, 104 assists) over 145 games.
The Knights visit the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday where Cowan looks to the extend the streak to 54 games.
