Mark Messier Couldn't Save The Rangers Alone And Neither Can J.T. Miller

J.T. Miller is just another piece to the puzzle as the Rangers need to get contributions from everybody.

Mark Messier Couldn't Save The Rangers Alone And Neither Can J.T. Miller - The Hockey News New York Rangers News, Analysis and More

When The Maven compares J.T. Miller as a Ranger savior to Mark Messier's feats in 1994 it is not without acknowledging the respective supporting casts.

Messier knew then – and will admit now – that the likes of Kevin Lowe, Adam Graves, Esa Tikkanen and Jeff Beukeboom, among others, also pulled hard on the Blueshirt rope in 1994.

Likewise, if the current New Yorkers are going to cross the Finish Line and into Playoff Land, J.T. is going to need the following from this core:

* THE GOALIE: Let's face it, Igor Shesterkin must – I said MUST – omit the kinds of mediocre performances we witnessed in Boston on Sunday. What's necessary is stealing games in the manner that earned him the title of "Highest Paid Goalie In The World."

* THE DEFENSEMAN: Adam Fox once won a Norris Trophy and once was considered an elite defender. Frankly, I don't know what's come over him but – like The Old, Gray Mare – he ain't what he used to be. He's young enough to straighten up and fly right. NOW, comrade, NOW!

* THE OTHER LEADER: We know that J.T. Miller is the new leader. But before Vancouver's gift to us came along, this captain-less team leader was Vincent Trocheck who just happens to be a lifelong pal of Miller. Trocheck has faded a bit; so much so that it's become noticeable. (Enough of that already, pal Vinny, Support J.T. 100 % on and off the ice.

* THE PROMISE: Too many times, Mister Keen, Tracer Of Lost Persons had to find the missing Alexis Lafrenière. At this time last year, Big Al burst from his shell and became a hot commodity.

Lately he's been a frigid commodity. Get hot, brother, GET HOT!

If the aforementioned quartet plays to its respective abilities, J.T. Miller could lead them to the postseason.

Get with it, lads, get with it!
