Mark Stone made franchise history on Tuesday night in Las Vegas, scoring both of the Vegas Golden Knights’ goals in a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
The two-goal outing brought Stone’s Vegas playoff total to 36, tying him with Jonathan Marchessault for the most postseason goals in franchise history.
Before joining the Knights, Stone only scored five goals in 27 postseason games with the Ottawa Senators.
"Mark Stone scored the first two goals of Game 1 and matched the @GoldenKnights record for most career goals in the #StanleyCup Playoffs," the NHL PR account posted on X.
"Another tally tonight would also put him past Jonathan Marchessault (2) for the most postseason hat tricks in franchise history."
Stone's achievement, however, came in a losing effort by Vegas and a historic one for the Oilers organization.
The Golden Knights blew a 2–0 first-period lead as the Oilers stormed back with four unanswered goals, making NHL history with a fifth straight comeback playoff win — a league first.
“Not the outcome we wanted,” Stone said. “There were some good parts of the game, some bad parts of the game. We'll go over it and get ready for Thursday night's game because it's going to be a big one for us.”
Stone’s opener came on a power play just 2:13 into the game, followed by a second goal at 9:03 on a play started by Jack Eichel.
The Golden Knights' captain now has four goals in the 2025 playoffs and has scored in three straight games.
Despite the early momentum, the Oilers tied the game 57 seconds into the third with a Leon Draisaitl goal after Corey Perry put Edmonton on the scoreboard at 16:26 in the first frame.
Zach Hyman’s wrist shot with 3:02 left put the Oilers ahead for good, while Connor Brown added the capper a little under two minutes from the final horn.
Game 2 of the best-of-7 series will take place in Las Vegas on Thursday with puck-drop scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET, before the series shifts to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4.
