Let's talk a little about Martin St-Louis, the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens.
Strangely, he isn't getting much credit right now for the extraordinary achievement his team is pulling off.
If the Canadiens pull off a surprise and make the playoffs, he would certainly deserve to be considered for the Jack Adams, the trophy awarded to the NHL's coach of the year.
In short, we got a big piece of evidence (last night) that Martin St-Louis is sincere and honest when he sets certain guidelines.
He doesn't just talk.
He acts and leads by example.
One of the key principles MSL has emphasized since the beginning of the season is to never get too high and never sink too low (emotionally).
And we got a very tangible example of that last night.
Martin St-Louis surprised many with his attitude during his post-game press conference after the big win against the Ottawa Senators
Going back to what I was saying. Never get too high, never get too low emotionally. That's a golden rule for St-Louis.
He was heavily criticized earlier this season after embarrassing losses and tough stretches because he didn't get 'angry enough' in post-game press conferences.
Well, how was Martin St-Louis last night?
He was surprisingly extremely calm, focused, and he was definitely not happy.
After such a big win, you might have expected to see a beaming, cheerful Martin in front of the media, but no.
He knows very well that the job is far from finished, and I love seeing that!
He was criticized for not being emotional enough after tough losses, so I want to acknowledge the fact that he didn't overdo it last night either, even after a huge victory.
Never get too high, never get too low emotionally.
Watch the press conference in question:
You can see that St-Louis is far from satisfied.
He wants more, and he's on a mission, just like the players on the team. I love to see it!
