One of the more intriguing storylines to follow in 2025 will be the Denver Broncos in the AFC West, following something of a resurgence under Sean Payton. One player is optimistic the good times will continue.

Since Payton joined the team in 2023 following a sabbatical from coaching after a long spell with the New Orleans Saints, they’ve compiled a 18-16 record while mostly rebuilding the roster.

A big step forward was taken last year, when the Broncos rode the arm of Bo Nix and some excellent defense to finish 10-7, their first winning season since 2016. That’s given some cause for optimism in Colorado that the team could make itself a perennial contender.

One Bronco sounds optimistic that’ll be the case.

Marvin Mims Jr. expresses optimism for the Broncos, says ‘times are changing’

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Mims Jr. was bullish over the team’s prospects for 2025 and beyond, citing the team’s growth in experience and maturity as a reason for optimism.

“You can really feel that the times are changing for us. People always like to say a “win now” mode. With the way things went last year — we were projected to be last in the league last year and wound up making the wild card. Guys that were here last year, they believe. The guys that are coming in, they want to make an impact too. I think everyone’s hungry.” Mims said.

2025 will mark Mims’ third year in the league, and he’ll look to progress as a receiver having gradually improved over his career so far. Last year’s 500-yard, six-touchdown season was a step forward from the former Oklahoma product, while he continued his excellence as a kick returner, being named to his second Pro Bowl, as well as being named a first-team All-Pro.

The big obstacle in the Broncos’ way

Optimism is good, but unfortunately for the Broncos, their biggest rival is also one of their closest, as they share the AFC West with the Kansas City Chiefs. Like most of the league, they still need to figure out how to overcome Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid on a consistent basis to improve their playoff standing.

In any case, with the team they’ve got and an ascending quarterback, it’s certainly not unreasonable to expect them to make some noise in the 2025 season. Sean Payton is also a proven and seasoned coach who has often been able to make the most out of the resources handed to him, so it bodes well for the future of the team and their ability to maximize their potential.

One thing is for sure, optimism abounds in Denver for the first time in almost a decade. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of it.
