MCU Spider-Man Franchise Actor Responds To Marvel Hiring Spider-Man 4's Director

One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actors from Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies breaks their silence on the latest Spider-Man 4 director news. The world has patiently been waiting for Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man 4 to finally become a reality following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. As of this week, a big update on the director search for Spider-Man 4 is putting the sequel on the right track to getting closer to beginning production in 2025.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant while promoting Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy, MCU alum Tony Revolori was asked about his thoughts on Destin Daniel Cretton boarding Spider-Man 4 as the director. Revolori, who played Flash Thompson in Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, had nothing but praise for the filmmaker, sharing the following:

Oh, man. I've been a big fan of his since Short Term 12. He's incredible. I think he's an incredible filmmaker, and he did such a great job with Shang-Chi, and I'm excited. I think he has a young adult sensibility to him, which is so awesome and cool. And I think it's so needed for a character like Spider-Man, so I'm just beyond excited to see him do it. I didn't even know that! This is the first time I'm hearing about it. That's awesome. Great.

As for what I could do? Who knows, but to be honest, I would happy to join up with those people again. It was so much fun the first time.

What Tony Revolori's Comments Mean For Spider-Man 4

Revolori's excitement for Cretton taking on the MCU Spider-Man movie is a shared sentiment, especially as this begins the next step of Holland's Peter Parker saga. Having a filmmaker with a so-called "young adult sensibility," as Revolori described it, for a character like Spider-Man is only fitting, especially since Spider-Man 4 will now focus on Peter after high school and in his college years. However, Cretton has already made a name for himself in the MCU with both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Wonder Man TV show, making him very familiar with the franchise at this point.

One of the best aspects of Cretton's work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was the action, as it brought a new and refreshing style to the MCU. With Spider-Man being such a physical character, Cretton could add a unique approach to Holland's web-slinger, perhaps something that hasn't even been explored in past Spider-Man incarnations in live-action. This could also work in favor of the film, especially if Spider-Man 4 has a very street-level story involving other New York heroes.

Time will tell when Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will start revealing who is joining and returning as part of the Spider-Man 4 cast outside of Holland. If production is meant to start in early 2025, that likely means reports will start emerging throughout the rest of 2024, as the two studios are likely to still finalize a lot of deals. Hopefully, more exciting details about Spider-Man 4 will start to roll out sooner rather than later.
