Melissa Gorga revealed why she believes The Real Housewives of New Jersey was put on pause after season 14 on the latest episode of her podcast as she was joined by her co-star Danielle Cabral.
While also reacting to the controversy surrounding Jennifer Aydin, 47, and her offensive meltdown at Jersey Mike’s, and sharing her thoughts on the potential 15th season of the show, posing the possibility of a “hybrid” cast, Melissa, 45, shaded certain cast members for the “game” they play.
According to Melissa, the friendships on the show can sometimes become about the show’s drama rather than genuine connections.
“It’s very hard to create a true genuine girlfriend and friendship with people who are like, even when the cameras aren’t on, we’re talking to you about what’s going to happen when we are on. That is what kills it and that is what did kill it, quite frankly, for the last couple years. It was a game,” she explained on the February 27 episode of On Display with Melissa Gorga. “It was a constant game and it was a hunger game.”
According to Melissa, even she fell for the hijinks of certain co-stars.
“I went to dinner with Jen one time, and the whole dinner was about, ‘When we get to the reunion,’ I was like, ‘No. I don’t take orders, and I don’t want to hear any of this, and I don’t want to discuss the show,’” she recalled. “All the planning and planning and planning and plotting I’m like, ‘Jesus Christ, do you guys ever sleep?’ I don’t know how you do anything else. I have a lot of businesses to run here, believe me, I’m not planning sh*t.”
As fans will recall, Jennifer and Teresa Giudice, 52, were accused of leaking stories to online bloggers amid season 14.
“Some people just can’t get off their high horses or they can’t accept change or they can’t invite new people in,” Melissa continued. “They’re almost insecure to have the change because then it means that you’re not, or that I’m not the head honcho anymore and it’s like, no, that’s how we move forward in life. That’s how we keep things interesting. You’ve gotta keep story moving.”
“It can’t be the same 10 things over and over and over, or the same 10 lines. Someone bang my head against the wall. So over it,” she added, seemingly referencing Teresa’s ongoing feud with her and Joe Gorga, 50.
Moving on to Jennifer, Melissa commented on her drama at Jersey Mike’s, and her involvement with bloggers.
“People are getting exposed for who they really are and the whole Jersey Mike’s of it all and everything, it’s like from day one I said, ‘This is a nasty, not a good human,’ I’ve said it since day one,” Melissa proclaimed. “I couldn’t be happier, honestly, that everything got exposed, even with what got exposed online.”
“The sh*t that was going on online would take the souls from us because it was like 24 hours a day and we were like, ‘Where are they getting it from? Are these people working for someone?’” she shared. “They cared way too much. There’s still a few out there that care way too much.”
Also on the episode, Melissa admitted that when it came to season 15, she and her co-stars “don’t know” anything about what the future holds. That said, she does have some guesses about what might go down.
“We don’t have any answers, [but] one thing I do know is that I do believe it will come back,” she stated. “I believe it will be a hybrid. I believe there will be some new, some old … I do not think they’re gonna revamp the whole show. They tried that once. I don’t think they’re gonna do that.”
“And I know, I think we can say ‘know,’ that it’s not gonna film until 2026. Like, it’s not happening this year,” she added.
