He makes a good point.
Of all the things holding the Cincinnati Bengals back this season, their quarterback isn’t one of them. Joe Burrow is putting up eye-popping numbers and doing everything he can, only to be let down by the defense or special teams, depending on the game.
If the Bengals had a better record, Burrow would likely be at or near the top of all MVP candidates, but the MVP coming from an underperforming team virtually never happens.
Dallas Cowboys' star pass rusher sees what we all see. On his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, he spoke about the team’s record overshadowing Burrow’s elite 2024 season.
“Say they were 7-3,” Parson said. “Joe Burrow would probably be the MVP right now…What did Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford do when they had a triple crown? Let’s talk about their defense. What did they do? They won the Super Bowl.”
Even with the defense of 2023, the Bengals would likely be over .500, giving Burrow more of a place in MVP discussions, but despite the offense lighting up the scoreboard, the Bengals have six losses on their record before Thanksgiving.
If the Bengals can go on a run and sneak into the playoffs, Burrow will not only get the consideration he deserves but would likely win the award.
If that happens, it must start December 1st against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
