The Nurses Ball 2025 has come and gone on General Hospital, and what a ride it was. In last week’s column, I said the show really needed to deliver, and boy, did it. Well, at least on the drama front! Let’s review everything that went down this week, including those performances!
Gio Stopped the Show
Gio’s performance of the actor’s own song “Glow” was undoubtedly the highlight of all the performances. As the characters said, he’s got crazy talent! Mind you, they weren’t just speaking of the character but Giovanni Mazza as well.
In last week’s column and earlier ones, I was sure Gio’s secret would come out on a hot mic while performing on stage. However, the way it played out, with Gio overhearing Lulu and Lois arguing and revealing the truth himself, was brilliant. Gio’s pain as he exposed his parents to the audience and thought that Brook Lynn and Dante never wanted him was gut-wrenching. Add this performance to the many Daytime Emmy-worthy ones that have come out of this storyline!
Having Gio, Brook Lynn and Lois vanish after Gio’s revelation on Friday’s episode, while Sonny, Ned, Olivia and Dante tried to digest what just happened, kept the tension going. Sure, we wanted answers, but not getting them immediately added to the realism. Carly stopping Lulu from running after Dante and the others was a great little scene, as was her warning Lulu that the train she set in motion was coming down the tracks to flatten her!
One thing that didn’t sit well with me was Lucy acting like the show had to go on. The audience slowly returned to their seats after Gio smashed his violin on stage, and everyone carried on to watch Joss and Trina perform. What!? Let’s be thankful we didn’t end up with Lucy in her underwear again.
Next week’s fallout will be epic, and I hope everyone saves enough venom for Lulu once they are done tearing Lois to shreds. Poor Gio not only got his world rocked about who his biological parents are, but he thinks neither of them wanted him and have been lying to his face his entire life! This won’t be an easy, overnight fix, and it will be interesting to see which family members Gio turns to and which he rejects.
Welcome Home, Daddy!
Drew and Nina hosting the red carpet for the Nurses Ball made no sense at all. Given the shots Drew was taking at the guests and how they were firing back at him, I really thought the only reason he was on that carpet was so someone could shoot him before the ball ended. Alas, that did not come to pass. However, by the time the curtain came down, many viewers were satisfied that Drew and Willow had been put in their places. Also, Joss reading Drew for filth on camera and Cody calling him “trash with abs” were some of my favorite jabs at Congressman Not-Quartermaine.
Drew planting evidence that Tracy drugged him with ketamine, and then having her arrested on the red carpet, was not something I was expecting. It was, on the one hand, a shocking surprise, but on the other hand, a disappointment. How dare Drew deprive us of watching Tracy perform in the ball!
Drew and Willow’s approach to Carly to compromise and avoid a custody hearing was pathetic, especially since he was doing all the talking. Carly asking Willow if she could speak, and Drew claiming “They are one” was so creepy and cultish, and just further showcased how far she has fallen, as she lets Drew speak for her now.
The moment we saw a man flying home on a private jet and watching Willow fawn all over Drew on the red carpet, it was clear that the new Michael was coming. Still, it didn’t dampen the moment or surprise at the end of the week when Michael (now played by Rory Gibson) appeared during the final act of the ball, the kids’ number, and Wiley ran into his dad’s arms. The look of “Oh shiznit!” on Drew and Willow’s faces in that moment was everything, as was Michael telling his son, “Let’s go home.” I cannot wait to see how all that’s gone down since he’s been in Germany will have changed Michael. As much as I love Nina, this time I’m Team Carly and Michael and want them to crush Willow and Drew!
Rating the Performances — and Final Thoughts
I’ve already noted that Gio was the standout performer. That said, Madonna’s “Holiday” will always hold a special place in my heart, so the nurses’ opening number performing it was just pure fun.
Chase and the boys performing ABC’s “Look of Love” was a lot of fun, and it made me wonder if there was going to be an ’80s theme to the ball this year.
Spinelli and the ladies performing “These Boots Were Made for Walking” was also fun, but I can’t help but think what it could have been if Tracy had been the one singing!
If I knew who YDE was, I might have been more excited about her performance. Not that it wasn’t good, it was. I just don’t know who she is! I need to sit down. I’m clearly having an old-timers moment right now.
Trina and Joss’ performance was good, but contrary to what her family and Kai told Trina, it was not the best in show.
The kids’ closing with “I’ll Be There” was adorable. I didn’t think I would like it, but I did, especially given that it facilitated Michael’s return and that epic Friday cliffhanger.
Other ponderings… I was sad to see Nina and Carly’s partnership end, and boy, did they end it with a bang! That was some brawl. (Here’s how they pulled it off.)
I am so glad that Alexis finally told Kristina she knew what she did, that this was basically her biggest screw-up to date, and that they could all go to jail because of her. Here is hoping Kristina will shut up and do as Alexis tells her going forward.
Elizabeth and Lucas watching the Nurses Ball from home was a nice nod to Britt and Brad’s past binge-watching of the ball. Liz even got a little snarky with the insults, joking how out of tune those kids would be, and wondering if Tracy got tasered when she was arrested.
Liz and Maxie were missed at the ball this year, and I expect Maxie will have much to say to Brook Lynn and Lulu next week!
That’s it for this week’s opinion column. As usual, leave your own in the comments below!
