Michkov Inadvertently Steals a Sure Goal from Konecny

The Philadelphia Flyers can’t catch a break. During Saturday afternoon’s game against the Minnesota Wild — a game the Flyers ultimately lost 4-1 — Travis Konecny had a gift of a goal that was stolen by his own teammate.

With the goaltender out of position, Konecny had a wide-open net and looked ready to put one in without an issue. But, as Michkov was battling for position in the crease area, he put his stick down on the ice. Of all the places the puck could have gone, it went right onto Michkov’s stick, and he stopped the puck from going in.

It was a blown power play opportunity, but there were chances for the Flyers. Michkov had a few quality looks, but Marc-André Fleury came up big with impressive saves to deny him.

Konecny’s chance was likely the best of all prime chances to bury an empty-net opportunity, but when things aren’t going well, every turn seems to go against the team.
