Minnesota Wild Off-Season Decisions - Mason Shaw

The Minnesota Wild have some decisions to make before July 1st and some to make after July 1st. One of them is forward Mason Shaw.

Shaw, 25, tore his fourth ACL in his career in April of 2023. The Wild let him train and rehab in Minnesota despite being without a contract. They signed him to an AHL contract and after he rehabbed, Shaw played for the Iowa Wild.

After nine games in the AHL Shaw was recalled by the Wild to finish the 2023-24 season in the NHL. He had four goals and seven points in nine AHL games and recorded one goal and three points in 20 games for the Wild in the NHL.

The Wild do have a decision to make on Shaw though. The 5-foot-10 forward is one of two players on the Wild who are an expiring RFA. The other is Declan Chisholm, whom the Wild plan on re-signing.

Shaw proved he is still an option for the bottom-six but it's hard to imagine if he has proved enough to get a full NHL deal again. He is coming off a fourth ACL surgery so the Wild and other teams may be hesitant. If the Wild could get Shaw on an AHL deal just to keep him around the team, I think they'd do it.

It remains to be unseen if the Wild qualify Shaw or not but I'm sure they will want to keep him around considering how great of a person and teammate he is.
