Mitch Love Is A Sneaky Good Head Coach Option For Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks are in the middle of their search for a new head coach. On Monday night, Kyle Davidson commented on the coaching search, admitting that there is no timeline.

Davidson and his staff are looking for someone to come in with the intentions of taking this rebuild to the next level. It will need to be a coach who can deal with a roster loaded with young talent that needs more development.

One option to consider is 40-year-old Mitch Love. Love currently serves as an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals. He is currently under Spencer Carberry, who is identifying himself as one of the best bench bosses in the NHL.

Before coming to the NHL via Washington, Love was the AHL coach in the Calgary Flames organization. His record of 96-33-8-3 and two Pacific Division titles tells you just how dominant his teams were.

With Washington as an assistant, he mostly handles the defenseman under the guidance of Carberry, who chose wisely when building his coaching staff. For a team like the Blackhawks, an organization loaded with young talent on the blue line, Love would be in a position to do great things.

Before becoming a coach at the pro levels, Love was an assistant with successful Canadian World Junior teams. He has experience with the development of young players, which is a must for a Blackhawks candidate.

He isn’t one of the top names on the market, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t one of the best. Nobody ever would have thought that Carberry would be a likely coach of the year winner when he first got his chance. Now, Love is one of the next in line.

Sometimes, a young team could use a young coach with fresh approaches to the game. With the young stars that Chicago has in the system, there is a lot to be excited about as long as the right people are leading the way.
