NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun has listed several teams expected to be in the mix to sign Mitch Marner, including a pair of divisional foes along with teams out West.
The Toronto Maple Leafs may very well be losing a key member of their famed 'Core 4' of players that include Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander.
Marner is a pending unrestricted free agent, and with each passing day, it looks more and more likely that he'll be departing and that the Maple Leafs will instead use his AAV (average annual value) of $10.9 million to address other needs on the roster.
Per a newly released report from NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, Marner could very well stay in the Atlantic Division, listing both the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers in the teams expected to court Marner this summer.
Additionally, LeBrun lists the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, and Vegas Golden Knights.
Marner reached a new career-best 102 points (27G, 75A) for the Leafs, who earned the top spot in the Atlantic Division. But he once again came under fire for failing to deliver when it mattered most in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, finishing with just a single assist in Toronto's final 4 games against the Panthers.
He also didn't sound committal to returning to Toronto during his end-of-season remarks.
I've always loved my time here. I've loved being here. Like I said to you guys the other night, I have been so grateful and, you know, haven't processed anything yet. It's still so fresh and losing sucks.
Marner could very well be the highest profile UFA to hit the open market since Tavares in 2018.
