The New York Rangers won the first game of the rookie series against the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in a shootout.

It was a back and forth affair as there were multiple lead changes and a ton of high quality scoring chances throughout the contest.

There were quite a few Rangers prospects who stood out in Friday night’s game.

Firstoff, Adam Edström scored two goals as his size was too much for the Flyers to handle in front of the net.

Edström played 11 games for the Rangers this past season and he showed why he is deserving of getting another NHL chance.

Standing at 6’8’’, Edström used his body exceptionally well specifically in the offensive zone where he was virtually unstoppable.

Going into rookie camp, Brennan Othmann was New York’s most highly anticipated prospect, and boy did he deliver.

Othmann ended the night with an assist and he scored the game winning goal in the shootout..

The 21-year-old just played a steady game. He facilitated for his teammates well and was silky smooth with the puck on his stick.

Brett Berard didn’t end the night with a point, but he was noticeable while on the ice.

Berard was the main puck handler on the power play and his bursts of speed was something to behold.

Matthew Robertson was like a brick wall in the defensive zone. He played a physically dominant game and was by far the team’s most effective defenseman out there.

In net Dylan Garand kept the Rangers in the contest. He made multiple big saves especially down the stretch and into the overtime period.

Garand showed flashes of the way he played in the AHL playoffs and if he continues to perform at this level, the Hartford Wolf Pack will be in business.

It was exciting to see all of these prospects together in live action and they play the Flyers again on Saturday night to close out the rookie series.
