The New York Rangers have a big decision to make heading into the 2025-25 season: naming a captain.

Since trading Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, the Rangers have been without a captain and that needs to change.

The team has some veteran options including Vincent Trocheck, Adam Fox, and Mika Zibanejad, but there’s one candidate that stands above the rest of the pack.

J.T. Miller would be the perfect captain for the Blueshirts.

Last season, the Rangers were lacking a tough, hard-nosed mentality, which Miller helped provide upon his arrival to The Big Apple midseason.

Miller is the kind of player and person who’s known for his aggressive mindset and competitive mentality.

As captain, Miller won’t be afraid to push his teammates in order to get the best out of each and every one of them.

The 32-year-old can instill a competitive and hungry identity into this Rangers team that is needed to become a true Stanley Cup contender.

While Miller’s aggressive personality may rub some people the wrong way, it is this kind of competitive spirit that builds winners and champions.

The Rangers need a culture shift and on top of the addition of Mike Sullivan as head coach, naming Miller to be the team’s captain will drastically change the culture for the better.
