Hobbs Career
Number 39 for the Raiders debuted in 2021 after being drafted in the fifth round from University of Illinois. During his time on the podcast, he detailed his drafting process prior to him signing with the Raiders.
He claims that during the draft combine he recorded at least a 44-inch vertical but was falsely recorded as a 40-inch vertical jump. “A scout gets up from the stands and yells, 40,” Hobbs said. “After that everybody just went with it.”
“I had a huge chip on my shoulder,” Hobbs confessed. “It started during the draft process.”
Money for the rookie contract is strongly affected the lower a player is drafted. Hobbs earned a chip because he was initially told that he would be drafted in the first or second round. Surprisingly, despite his athletic ability and production Hobbs lasted until the fifth round.
The best slot cornerback in the NFL by PFF with a 79.1 overall grade in 2021 was none other than Nate Hobbs.
In general, he has battled some injuries which has held him out of a handful of games. 2023 was the tackle career high for him with 86 in 13 games.
Hobbs will play his final guaranteed season on the Raiders as he is going into his fourth season at 25 years old. Maxx Crosby definitely would like the cornerback to remain with the team.
