Nathan MacKinnon to Join Sidney Crosby After Being Eliminated From Playoffs

While the respective seasons of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Avalanche are over, both Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon will be teammates once again.

The Colorado Avalanche were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday night, losing a heartbreaking Game 7 to the Dallas Stars.
Avalanche star forward Nathan MacKinnon, who was as shocked as anyone at how things turned out for his club, has decided he's not ready to put away the skates for the summer just yet.

MacKinnon will join Team Canada for the upcoming IIHF World Championships and once again, will be joining forces with his friend Sidney Crosby; both players are from the Canadian province of Nova Scotia and have been close for many years.
Crosby announced earlier on Sunday that he would join Team Canada for the impending World Championships, and they've now added another top-notch forward in MacKinnon.
MacKinnon had a spectacular showing in the postseason for the Avalanche, scoring 7 goals in the 7-game series. He had 116 points (32G, 84A) in 79 games, the 3rd straight year that he eclipsed the 100-point mark.
Meanwhile, Crosby broke one of Wayne Gretzky's records with his 20th year of registering at least a point per game; Gretzky finished his career with 19.
He had 91 points (33G, 58A) but wasn't able to help push the Penguins to a postseason spot; they've now missed 3 years in a row, the longest playoff drought of Crosby's NHL career.
The World Championships will be played starting on May 9 and will run through May 25; the event will be co-hosted by Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark.
