Necas to the Canucks: Friedman confirms blockbuster in the making

Following the Carolina Hurricanes' second-round playoff exit, forward Martin Necas has been the center of many trade talks around the league. The former first-round pick has eclipsed 70 points in a season already in his young career and will likely bring in a haul for the Hurricanes in the event of a trade. The Vancouver Canucks are certainly a team with the necessary assets to make a big splash for Necas.

The Hurricanes have an influx of notable free agents, such as Jake Guentzel, Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce. They will likely need to juggle some roster to re-sign these players.
Elliotte Friedman touched on the likelihood of a Necas trade to Vancouver on the Donnie & Dhali Podcast:
Dhaliwal:
What are you hearing on the Canucks and Necas?

Friedman:
The ask is big; I don't think Hronek will get it done. I think they will need to attach some of their top prospects. The talks are not the same as they were around the deadline.

Hronek is a notable free agent for the Canucks and is in line for a significant pay raise. The Canucks' top prospects include Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Tom Wallinder, and Arshdeep Bains, among others.
