New '9-1-1' Season 8, Episode 16 Promo Reveals That Funeral We Were All Dreading

After eight seasons, 9-1-1 has killed off its first main character, and in a shocking turn of events, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) is no more. Episode 15, "Lab Rats," concluded the two-part contagion arc as the 118 fought to stay alive after a lab fire released a virus, but unfortunately, Bobby's suit was compromised, and he became infected. In his final act of service, Bobby sacrificed his life to ensure his team got out. When the show returns in two weeks on May 1, everyone will be dealing with the fallout of this loss as they gather to say goodbye to the man who was their leader, and more to some of them. ABC released a sneak peek of 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 15, "The Last Alarm," previewing the aftermath of his death.

It must be pretty surreal to attend the funeral of a man who had always seemed invincible. He had survived some of the worst things a human being can endure, yet here he lies. Bobby's funeral is a huge affair, but that doesn't hide the pain. "I experienced a devastating loss," his wife Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) says in the video below. Everyone is dealing with death differently, and for Chimney (Kenneth Choi), that involves a lot of guilt and self-blame. Chim struggles to accept Bobby's choice. Athena suffers serious cognitive dissonance as she refuses to accept that Bobby's dead, but at the same time blames him for leaving.

Is Bobby Really Dead in '9-1-1' Season 8, Episode 15?

Like many characters in the show, Bobby has come close to dying on several occasions. But in this one, “Bobby’s dead,” showrunner Tim Minear confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. But why? "I would say it was our [collective] decision, but it was my decision because I felt like, creatively, if the show became too inert, it would just die of inertia, right? So I felt like it just needed to happen," he explained to the outlet. Minear revealed how he settled on Bobby, saying:

"Once I started thinking that somebody had to die, then the choice was, who? And the only choice that I thought made sense was Bobby. It makes sense for his character to have a tragic sacrifice as a conclusion of his entire journey in the show. And also, if there’s a character whose death is going to affect the most characters, who would that be? So, go big or go home."
