New Giants running back has two major goals that could lead to more wins in 2024

The New York Giants won’t have a lack of confidence in their backfield in 2024. New featured running back Devin Singletary is focused on winning games next season.

The veteran ball-carrier wants to drive up the Giants’ win total behind strong team play in the running back unit, but also has an expectation for himself that should be music to everyone’s ears in New York, as Geoff Magliocchetti of Fan Nation’s Giants Country shared:

“As a running back, you always want to get 1,000 yards,” Singletary said. “At the end of the day, it’s still helping the team in any way to win.”

“That’s our focus: Win games,” Singletary said when asked how they could ease the sting of losing Barkley to a hated division rival. “We aren’t worried about the shadow of Saquon or none of that. It’s just finding ways to win games.”

Devin Singletary is determined to lead a successful Giants running game next year

Singletary will bear the majority of the burden of carrying the Giants’ running game next year. The G-Men finished No. 16 in the NFL with 1,874 rushing yards on the previous campaign. Without Barkley, who contributed 962 of those rushing yards in 2023, the Giants will need a primary ball-carrier that can find holes in the offensive line and help the team run a multivariate attack.

Thankfully for New York, Singletary’s production didn’t fall too far from Barkley’s last season. The 5-7 back went for 898 rush yards on 4.2 yards per carry — 0.3 more yards per attempt than Barkley — and four rushing touchdowns with the Houston Texans.

Singletary will be big for the Giants as the featured back and leader of their young unit

The FAU product will lead a backfield that also features Eric Gray, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Jashaun Corbin. Gray only produced 48 yards on the ground on 17 attempts in his rookie outing, while Tracy Jr. is the Giants’ fifth-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft and Corbin only mustered up one rushing yard on one carry and 12 receiving yards on three receptions in his rookie 2023 campaign.

Singletary is up to the task of leading the running back unit both in output and as a leader of the young troops behind him. The Giants have a promising ensemble of wide receivers that figure to open up the offense in 2024. Singletary will be the driving force of a backfield that can either enhance New York’s offense or stagnate it.
