New Orleans Saints coach hosts defensive lineman for private meeting before SMU pro day

The New Orleans Saints have met with many prospects this spring, from pro day visits to private workouts, they have been all around the country to solidify their big board ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. Some of their coaches have had the chance to individually go to pro days and meet with prospects before and after those events take place as well.

A recent example of this came up, which was new defensive line coach Bo Davis having a dinner meeting with SMU edge Elijah Roberts, as was reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. He also notes that Roberts had pro day meetings with the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, and Atlanta Falcons, as well as visits with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Roberts has solid athleticism all around, posting an 8.06 RAS, calculated by Kent Lee Platte. With good not great results in most of the testing events, he has proven his athleticism will not be a detractor to his game, but rather a strength. His productivity was good once he moved on from Miami to SMU, and in 2024 he put up 35 total tackles (17 solo, 18 assisted), 11 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles with 1 recovery, and a pass deflection.

Predominantly lining up outside the tackle as a true edge, he could be a good fit for the Saints' new 3-4 defense that is projected to be overhauled compared to last year. He is projected to go in the early part of Day 3 in the draft, so he could be someone to watch out for with one of the Saints' later draft picks.
