New Orleans Saints Make Big Announcement Amid Derek Carr Saga

The New Orleans Saints have an unclear quarterback direction at the moment, with Derek Carr nursing a shoulder injury that seemingly came out of nowhere.

However, that injury saga isn’t stopping the Saints from going down to work in the offseason, as they gear up for their first season under head coach Kellen Moore, who is looking to turn things around for New Orleans after winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last February.

On Wednesday, the Saints announced the roster of the 2025 rookie minicamp that is scheduled to start this Thursday at Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie, Louisiana.

All nine unsigned 2025 NFL draft picks by the Saints are part of the minicamp roster, including quarterback Tyler Shough, who was taken in the second round (40th overall). New Orleans’ selection of Shough turned a lot of heads, especially since he was the third quarterback off the board, ahead of the likes of Jalen Milroe, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Who will be the New Orleans Saints’ QB1 in 2025?

Carr could undergo surgery to address his injury, and if he does, there is a potential that he sits out the entire 2025 NFL season.

Apart from Shough, the Saints have 2024 holdovers Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, who each got their chances to see action last season. New Orleans is in an unenviable position when it comes to its QB situation, but there should be more clarity in that area once a final decision is made on how Carr will deal with his injury.
