The New Orleans Saints continue to have a raging quarterback competition at hand for head coach Kellen Moore. Both rookie Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler have seen high points so far this offseason, but there is still no clear answer on who will start in Week 1 for New Orleans.
For Shough, a recent update about his offseason endeavors is a pretty cool look for him, and plenty of fans will appreciate it.
Tyler Shough attends Manning Passing Academy
This is not a norm. Shough has been heavily involved in the offseason workouts so far for the Saints, but now, he's taken while the team is off to help mentor younger quarterbacks as well.
According to Doug Mouton, Shough is the first NFL quarterback to return to the Manning Passing Academy as a counselor. He is mentoring QBs along with a historic NFL family in the Mannings.
For more than 50 years, the Manning family and the quarterback position have been practically synonymous with one another. As such, their summer vacations always revolve around the annual Manning Passing Academy…a family-owned and managed football camp that embraces the basic fundamentals of football while catering to the offensive skill positions of RB, TE, WR ... and of course QB. -- Manning Passing Academy
Shough isn't shying away from giving back and helping young players who want to improve. For the Saints and their fans, they will surely appreciate this sort of gesture from him. The young QB even spent some time with Super Bowl champion head coach Jon Gruden this weekend as well.
The QB competition still a big question for Saints
There is no doubt that choosing a quarterback is the first and largest question for Moore to answer as the new leader for the Saints. Making the wrong choice there could help spiral the team toward another frustrating campaign in 2025.
With that, Shough may have plenty of pressure on him, given he wins the job. A season filled with defeats would lead New Orleans to a potential top five selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, and his replacement could be picked in that sort of scenario.
Regardless, he is set to continue his battle against Rattler. We will see who comes out on top for Moore's offense.
